Dylan Ridolfi, 15, was sledding at Sheep's Flat in Washoe County, Nev., when he slammed into a tree at a high-rate of speed, according to a family friend.

Ridolfi's football team went undefeated last season, capturing the Delta River League championship, but friends remembered the boy Tuesday as much for his love of others as his love of football.

Kim DeVincenzi, a family friend, told KCRA 3 that Ridolfi loved spending time with kids younger than him, especially his 3-year-old brother.

"He always wanted to have fun, whether it was building remote control cars, or preparing for football," DeVincenzi said. "It was always, let's have fun, let's have a big smile, let's laugh."

Guidance counselors were on campus Tuesday to provide support for staff and students.

Ridolfi's coaches and teammates planned to join family and friends at a place known as "The Rock" near the high school for a candlelight vigil tonight.

A public vigil is then scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at the same location.
