Winter is among us; at least in the sports world.
Over the weekend, Muskie men and women?s basketball were in action, as was wrestling.
Women?s basketball?fared?the best, coming back to campus with a record of 1-1.
The ladies beat Manchester College on Friday night, 67-64. Meghan Billick led the Muskies there, notching a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds.
On Saturday, the Muskies were looking at a huge upset to start their season. With just over 7 minutes before halftime, the ladies were up 34-17 on Illinois Wesleyan, number 5 in the nation and defending national champions.
A 17-point lead was trimmed to 10 at the half.
In the second half, it was a 14-2 Illinois Wesleyan run matched with 33 Muskie turnovers that led to the Wesleyan win by a score of 80-67.
The ladies will be back in action on November 24 v. Daemen at the Marietta College for the Turkey Shoot Tournament.
Muskie men?s basketball went winless over the weekend at Westminster College, falling to Thiel College on Friday, then host Westminster on Saturday.
Dave Brown?s 23 points weren?t enough for the Muskies as they dropped the game 81-61 to Thiel.
On Sunday it was the tandem of Brown and Clay Owings, but they still weren?t enough to top Westminster, losing the second game of the weekend 78-60. Brown and Owings both finished the game with 17 points.
The men will be at home on Tuesday November, 20 against Kenyon College.
Wrestling finished the weekend 0-4 and the University of Mount Union duals.
The Muskies were beaten by Messiah (39-11), Gettysburg (42-3), Thiel (50-0) and Washington and Jefferson (42-6).
